The Crystal Palace talisman has been ruled out for a minimum six weeks.

Desperate times call for desperate measures… and some Crystal Palace fans are calling for the return of a player they released 15 months ago to solve their striker crisis.

Having failed to recruit a senior centre forward during the summer transfer window, Palace have been left with only Freddie Ladapo – signed from non-league Margate last summer – as a natural in the role after Christian Benteke’s knee injury.

Luckily, the Eagles have left space in their 25-man Premier League squad to make one new signing, although they can only recruit players who were – and remain – free agents before the summer transfer deadline.

Their options include an unfit Giuseppe Rossi, Carlton Cole and Rickie Lambert, but as far as several Palace fans are concerned, Marouane Chamakh is the man to whom they want Roy Hodgson to turn.

Chamakh previously scored 10 goals in 66 games for the Eagles, before an unsuccessful short-term spell at Championship Cardiff City last season.

Tongue in cheek? We’ll leave that for you to decide…
