The West Ham United manager signed Mirallas at Everton.
West Ham United’s manager David Moyes has raised a fair few eyebrows in his time. Like, for example, when he compared Everton’s Kevin Mirallas to Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale. No, seriously.
It was April 2013, and Moyes, the then Everton manager, told the Daily Post: “Our individual player scored a goal that maybe a Gareth Bale would, as he has done this season. He scored one the other week as well.
“Kevin Mirallas scored a Gareth Bale goal… or maybe Gareth’s been scoring Kevin Mirallas goals!”
But the following month Moyes would be off, with Manchester United seemingly undeterred – to their detriment.
Since appointed as West Ham’s manager, and with the news that Mirallas is again considering his future Everton, depending on the identity of the Toffees’ next manager [Liverpool Echo], could the pair be on course for a January reunion, five years on?
It is certainly plausible. Mirallas was a West Ham target earlier this year [Liverpool Echo], while Moyes, who worked with eight of his 13 Sunderland signings previously at other clubs, has already admitted he wants “people who I know and people who I’ve worked with”, when discussing potential staff appointments on Talksport earlier this week.
And given recent reports about Mirallas’ attitude, it is unlikely that Everton would kick up too much of a fuss should an offer arrive from the London Stadium.
West Ham fans can draw their own comparisons then.
