The German boss has been heavily linked with a move to Villa Park.

Managers like taking players with them to new clubs and Huddersfield Town boss David Wagner is no different.
Linked with the Aston Villa job this week, could the German, who has reunited with Chris Lowe, Ivan Paurevic and Jon Gorenc Stankovic at the John Smith’s Stadium, repeat his trick if he moves to Villa Park?
His current crop sit atop the Championship with 11 games played, but which of his stars would best suit the Villans?
Villa spent a fortune on defenders and strikers this summer, which perhaps rules out Terriers centre-back Christopher Schindler and his offensive teammates Nakhi Wells and Elias Kachunga, while star midfielder Aaron Mooy is on a season long-loan from Manchester City, making him an unrealistic January option.

Though there is perhaps room for another central midfield player – an alternative to the imposing duo of Mile Jedinak and Aaron Tshibola – another area of Villa’s squad could undoubtedly be improved.
The Villans looked to have right-back sorted when Ritchie De Laet arrived from Premier League winners Leicester City, but just three games into his Villa Park career the Belgian has been ruled out for the rest of the campaign.
Previous boss Roberto Di Matteo opted, for the most part, to deploy Leandro Bacuna there – despite the Dutchman being a winger by trade. And with Alan Hutton’s Villa career seemingly written off, there is perhaps room for another body when the transfer window reopens.

And said body could be Tommy Smith, who has been an ever present under Wagner this season. Although he has won fewer tackles, take-ons and made fewer blocks per game than Bacuna so far, the 24-year-old has made more telling contributions at either end of the pitch – averaging more assists, duels and a greater number of clean sheets per game.
