Leeds United did not sign another striker in the January transfer window.
Leeds United’s Chris Wood celebrates scoring his sides second goal
Leeds United look like they might just come up short in their hunt for a play-off spot, after a recent blip in form saw them slip to seventh and Fulham entering the top six.
The drop in form could not have come at a worse time, but Leeds boss Garry Monk must take his share of the blame for not making one vital move in the January transfer window.
Leeds fans were crying out for the club to sign a new striker in the winter. Chris Wood has been in fine form this season but his back-up is minimal. Marcus Antonsson has struggled to adapt to English football whilst Kemar Roofe and Souleymane Doukara are not lone strikers.
Leeds needed to sign another out and out centre-forward, in the Chris Wood mold, in case his form dropped.
It did drop, and Leeds and Monk have had nothing to turn to.
Leeds’ Marcus Antonsson in action
Wood may have 28 goals in 46 games this season, a stunning record from the Kiwi striker, but he has only managed to score once in his last six games, a late equaliser against Newcastle United.
That has not proven good enough and the players around him have not chipped in with enough goals. The end result looks like being another year in the Championship for Leeds and not signing another striker in the winter now looks like a big error.
