Joe Dodoo is on loan at League One Blackpool from Scottish Premiership side Rangers – and Steven Gerrard won’t be impressed.

Back in November, Blackpool manager Terry McPhillips labelled Joe Dodoo as ‘phenomenal’ after the Rangers loanee scored a stunning overhead kick in a 3-0 win against Burton Albion, as reported by The Gazette.

Dodoo was enjoying something of a purple patch in the luminous orange kit of the Tangerines. That wonderfully athletic finish was his fourth goal in four games, following an FA Cup double against Accrington Stanley.

But, with the benefit of hindsight, this is now looking like another false dawn for a player who has never really managed to build on his initial promise.

A 2016 signing from Leicester City, Dodoo has struggled to make an impression at Rangers and he is already gaining a reputation for being a player who starts well in new surroundings before slipping out of view.

And it seems that history is repeating itself at Bloomfield Road. Dodoo has scored just once in Blackpool colours since that brilliant finish against Burton – meaning he has found the back of the net on a single occasion in his last 12 games.

With less than two months to go before the season comes to an end, it seems that the 23-year-old is running out of time to show Rangers what they’re missing.
