Let’s say they must still be playing, otherwise we’d all say Chris Waddle and well, that wouldn’t be very interesting now would it?
Even since those early-’90s glory days, Wednesday have had their fair share of talented footballers – rarely though, have they had more than a handful at any one time.
Carlos Carvalhal’s current crop have perhaps changed that, although that’s not to say there isn’t room for improvement at Hillsborough.
There have been concerns among supporters about a number of areas this season, with Wednesday’s full-back, centre-back and central midfield areas frequently debated.
One more general gripe though, has been a perceived lack of pace. And while perhaps not as big an issue as some may make out, having a pacy wideman in the Michail Antonio mould would surely help to kick the Owls on.
There have been times this season when Wednesday have suffered due to a lack of width and Antonio would soon see to this – as Adam Reach may well do when no longer required to fill in at left-back – while his physical stature and goalscoring record are mightily impressive for a winger.
Of course, as a West Ham United regular and England international there’s little chance of Antonio returning to Hillsborough, where he won promotion from League One in 2012, although what a team this would be…
