Pundit Trevor Sinclair has taken to Twitter to suggest that Everton need to give manager Ronald Koeman a new contract in order to keep players like Romelu Lukaku at the club.

The Toffees enjoyed another superb home win this afternoon, as they hammered lowly Hull City 4-0 at Goodison Park, with Romelu Lukaku adding a late brace after earlier goals from Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Enner Valencia.

It’s now just seven points dropped in the last ten games for Everton, with seven wins since the turn of the year as they – possibly temporarily – move up into sixth place in the Premier League table.

European qualification is the target for Ronald Koeman, and whilst results are on the pitch are exceptional right now, matters off the field are a little more complicated.

Earlier this week, as reported by BBC Sport, striker Lukaku snubbed a new £140,000-a-week contract to stay with the Toffees, throwing his future in doubt.

The Belgian does have two years left on his contract, but his snub means that clubs will be eyeing up moves to sign the prolific striker this summer – and question marks have been hanging over manager Koeman too.

Whilst he only left Southampton for Everton last summer, the Dutchman has been mentioned as a possible target for Barcelona as they look for a replacement for the outgoing Luis Enrique.

With Lukaku rejecting a new deal, BBC pundit Trevor Sinclair has taken to Twitter to suggest that Everton should prove their ambition by handing Koeman a new contract in order to fend off Barcelona, and to tempt other players – both at the club and elsewhere – into committing their futures to the club, suggesting that one deal for Koeman could lead to more.
