Rangers midfielder Jordan Thompson had a positive day following his Rangers exit.

Midfield talent Jordan Thompson has had a fascinating week as his Rangers career comes to an end.

The Scottish Sun reported on Monday how Thompson will be leaving Rangers at the end of June when his contract comes to an end.

The midfielder spent this past season out on loan and his path to the Rangers first team was blocked.

As one door closes, another opens, with Thompson called into Michael O’Neill’s Northern Ireland squad for the very first time.

It was reward for the 21-year-old’s performances on loan at Livingston, who he helped win promotion.

Thompson said on Twitter the call up was ‘a dream come true’, and that he was ‘absolutely buzzing’ to be selected.

It is a depleted Northern Ireland squad, with Gers back-up Lee Hodson making it in, but the selection of Thompson shows they are looking towards the future too.

The friendlies are a good chance for Thompson to catch the eye and try and earn a new deal now he is a free agent, but he must also be careful he does not pick up an injury and dent his career prospects in the process.

So far at least, life post-Rangers is working out well for Thompson.
