Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has told The Scottish Sun that he wants to bring a new striker to Ibrox.

Alfredo Morelos and Jermain Defoe are the two main strikers at Rangers at the moment.

While Morelos struggled to score goals after the mid-season winter break last season and was also suspended for matches, former Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United star Defoe had injury issues.

Rangers boss Gerrard has said that he wants to sign a new striker in the summer transfer window.

Gerrard told The Scottish Sun: “It was quite evident after the winter break when we were getting suspensions or Jermain had his injuries that we did lack a bit of firepower. That is one area we are looking for.

“I don’t want to put a number on it because if we don’t get them in people will maybe say we have failed.”

Need for a new striker?

When everyone is fit and available, Morelos is likely to start matches, with Defoe coming off the substitutes’ bench.

It is hard to see the Gers able to bring in someone who is better than Morelos or Defoe, meaning that whichever striker comes in will be the third choice.

Will Rangers find a striker who is willing to spend a lot of time on the substitutes’ bench?

Perhaps the Gers should look at someone in the youth team and promote a youngster to become a back-up to Morelos and Defoe.
