The Frenchman is not pleasing football purists with his squad number choice, although he had little alternative.
This month Everton made a brilliant piece of transfer business, bringing in Morgan Schneiderlin from Manchester United.
Everton boss Ronald Koeman worked with him at Southampton and the French international was struggling for first-team football at Old Trafford.
It has so far proven to be a brilliant move for Everton. The midfielder has made a noticeable difference in the middle of the park for Koeman’s men and fans are rightly excited about seeing him play with Idrissa Gana Gueye, when he returns from international duty with Senegal.
Everton’s Morgan Schneiderlin warms up
But there is undoubtedly one annoying thing about the midfielder’s presence at Everton … his squad number.
The central midfielder is wearing number two!
Schneiderlin is wearing the number traditionally put aside for the right-back, which certainly irks the football purists out there.
There were not many numbers on offer at Everton. In fact, the earliest one free he could have taken was the number 13, and then it was 33.
Everton’s Morgan Schneiderlin comes on as a substitute to replace Kevin Mirallas
Of course this has happened before.
Clint Dempsey did similar at Spurs, defender William Gallas wore 10 at Arsenal and centre-back Khalid Boulharouz had the number nine at Chelsea.
Hopefully, in time, Schneiderlin can change his number if something more appropriate pops up.
But, as long as he continues playing well for Everton, not many a Toffee fan will care.
