Remember Ismail Azzaoui? Don’t worry, if you’re not a Tottenham Hotspur fan, then you probably won’t.

The Belgian winger was highly-regarded at Anderlecht, and Spurs swooped to sign him in an exciting move back in 2014.

You only have to look at some of the names to come through the Anderlecht ranks; Romelu Lukaku, Vincent Kompany, Youri Tielemans Leander Dendoncker, Dennis Praet… a number of players to have thrived in the Premier League.

Back in 2014, Spurs had hoped that Azzaoui would become a star in his own right, and it looked like he was on the right track in 2015.

Azzaoui won the Player of the Tournament award at the National Under-21 Tournament in France, and was named as one of the top 50 young players in the world by The Guardian.

Just weeks later though, Spurs confirmed that Azzaoui had left the club for Wolfsburg, leaving Tottenham fans to suggest that the club would regret letting him leave.

The 22-year-old was released by Wolfsburg at the end of last season, having made just two appearances for them – and he has now found himself a new club as a free agent.

Eredivisie side Heracles Almelo have confirmed the signing of Azzaoui on a one-year deal with the option of a second year, following a successful trial.

Having overcome ACL troubles in the past, Azzaoui will now be hoping to settle in the Netherlands, especially having previously impressed at Willem II – and fulfil some of the potential he showed at Tottenham all those years ago.
