Speaking on the Footballer’s Football Podcast, Michail Antonio and Callum Wilson have been discussing Liverpool’s fanbase.
The pair were discussing the best stadium to play at in terms of atmosphere, and while Wilson and Antonio would have been tempted to say St James’ Park and the London Stadium respectively, they both agreed that the crowd at Anfield was something special.
Indeed, Antonio even went as far as to say that once the crowd start singing it feels as though they’re sucking the ball into the net.
What’s been said?
The pair spoke about the Liverpool fanbase.
“In terms of atmosphere, it’s going to have to be Anfield. When the Kop sing You’ll Never Walk Alone you get goosebumps and things like that and you get more energy from that. In my mind I want to score in that atmosphere and take in that atmosphere. I enjoy calming it down and being a villain in a stadium like that. Fortunately, I have scored in front of the Kop and given them the celebratory salute as you do. We didn’t win the game, but it was a nice moment on a personal level,” Wilson said.
“For atmosphere, I have to agree with you, the Kop, once they start singing and you’re playing it’s like they’re sucking the ball into the net. It’s unreal how they manage to lift their players and it feels like the ball is being sucked into your net. The last two times we’ve been there we’ve played well, but we’ve never won there since I’ve been at West Ham, I’m hoping that one day we will,” Antonio said.

Unbeatable
There’s a reason that Liverpool have been so unbeatable at Anfield over the past few years, and that’s because of their fanbase.
Yes, the Reds struggled at home last season due to the pandemic forcing them to play behind closed doors, but prior to that, they went 68 games unbeaten at Anfield.
Antonio hopes to win at Anfield in the future, but sadly for West Ham, it’s hard to fancy them to get a result anytime soon.
