The Mexican was reported a Jurgen Klopp favourite, but he struggled in the Champions League tie last night.

Liverpool have one foot in the next round of the Champions League after dealing out a thrashing against Porto last night. They won 5-0, with goals from Mo Salah, Roberto Firmino and a hat-trick from Sadio Mane doing the damage for the Reds.
It was a game to forget for the Porto players, who were unceremoniously played off the park by Liverpool.
In particular Liverpool completely outplayed Porto in the middle of the park. One of the players Liverpool made look ridiculous was Mexican midfielder Hector Herrera.

He has been a long-term target for Liverpool, according to several reports in the past. In June 2016 Liverpool were even said to be on the verge of signing the player by the Sun. Jurgen Klopp was said to be interested in the player, who would have been available – with his release clause set at £35 million at Porto.
That deal never happened, with the Mexican instead remaining at Porto and based on the evidence from yesterday it appears that he would not have improved Liverpool.
Klopp’s current midfield options made Herrera chase his tail for most of the game and Liverpool fans are probably not kicking themselves that they do not have the El Tri option in their ranks at the moment.
He might want to perform better in the return leg at Anfield, if he is to revitalise any interest from Klopp and Liverpool ahead of the summer.
