Celtic are reportedly set to sign Steven Caulker on a free transfer.
Celtic have already snapped up Jonny Hayes, Kundai Benyu and Olivier Ntcham this summer, but another deal could be close as Brendan Rodgers looks to boost his defensive options.
Dedryck Boyata’s injury means that Rodgers is left with Erik Sviatchenko and Jozo Simunovic in the heart of defence, but a new centre back could be on the way.

West London Sport report that QPR defender Steven Caulker is closing in on a move to Celtic, with the deal allegedly set to be a free transfer, with QPR including a sell-on clause.
Caulker, 25, was once touted as a top young centre back in England, but he not only struggled to settle with Cardiff City and then QPR, but off-field matters have also played a part in Caulker’s struggles.
Last month, the centre back told The Guardian that he has been struggling with depression as well as addictions to alcohol and gambling, but is now attempting to get his career back on track.
A reunion with his former Swansea boss Rodgers could be ideal for the defender, having enjoyed a superb season under the Celtic boss during the 2011-12 campaign, which prompted praise from Rodgers.
Rodgers told Wales Online in March 2012 that he felt Caulker had been ‘dominant’ for Swansea and was a wonderful talent, but didn’t feel that he could prise him away from Tottenham – who did end up selling Caulker just a year later.
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers
“Steven is going to be a top player,” said Rodgers. “He is only 20 years of age but he’s been a dominant player for us, brilliant all season. He’s still got a lot to learn and improve on in his career but he is wonderful talent for his age and he has a great future ahead of him. But as for signing him, I think Tottenham have got a big future planned for him there so I don’t think they’ll be selling him,” he added.
Rodgers is now set to land Caulker for free, and he should be delighted to land a player he clearly trusts in such a bargain deal – and as for Caulker, working under the Celtic boss again should give him a chance to settle down and get his career kickstarted again.
