Liverpool’s first team grabbed a 1-1 draw at Manchester City on Sunday afternoon, and the attention turned to their Under-21’s on Tuesday night.

The Reds were in Football League Trophy action, travelling to take on League Two side Port Vale in a key group stage game.

Liverpool needed a win to stay in the competition having lost to Wigan Athletic and Tranmere Rovers, but lost again with a 4-2 defeat.

Mark Cullen, Alex Hurst, Harry McKirdy and Devante Rodney fired Vale to the win, with Liam Millar scoring both of Liverpool’s goals.

Millar has already scored two Premier League 2 goals in seven games this season, and has now added a couple of EFL Trophy goals to his account.

The 21-year-old winger, once branded ‘electric’ by Steven Gerrard, is at a key point in his development. After a couple of loan spells at Kilmarnock, Millar is back at Anfield but some way off the first team.

The Liverpool Echo reported back in July that Bundesliga and Championship clubs both wanted to sign Millar, but the Reds had rebuffed offers.

Goal later claimed in September that Liverpool had eased their stance and were prepared to let Millar go, but that didn’t happen – and he’s now attempting to earn some attention with his Under-21 displays.

Whether that’s impressing Jurgen Klopp or a potential suitor, Millar is doing everything right at the moment, and his two-goal showing last night surely hasn’t gone unnoticed.
