On the 11th March 2013 what were the stories that dominated the football landscape? Including Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United.

I am casting my eye back to this exact day, the 11th March 2014, but a year earlier.

What were the main tales from that day? What big events were happening in Premier League football?

Here are some of the big scoops from the 11th March 2013…

Decent baller

A year ago today saw Jack Wilshere tipping a fellow young Arsenal midfielder to become a future star at the club.

The England international had taken to Twitter to let everyone know what he thought of Alfred Mugabo.

The Rwandan, who can play in midfield or defence, was being hotly tipped for success after an excellent season in the Arsenal youth team.

But a year later and things have gone sour.

He has been on trial at Sheffield Wednesday recently after a poor season that has been blighted by injuries and a lack of progression.

Expected to leave the club this summer – here’s hoping he finds a place at Wednesday.

United want Henan

Manchester United were reportedly tracking young Belgian talent David Henen of Anderlecht this time last year.

The player had been impressing in the Anderlecht Under-19 side and was reportedly valued at around £3.5 million by the club.

The 17-year-old has however since become an AS Monaco player. He is on loan at the club and is now set to sign a professional deal in the summer.

Brendan Nostradamus

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers was acting as Nostradamus a year ago today – when speaking about the pursuit of European football…

“It is a double-edged sword for us. The players and supporters want to be in Europe and as a manager it is a great test and I have really enjoyed the Europa League this year. But you could argue having one season out of Europe would give us an even greater chance of challenging for the top four next season.”

That it has. Whilst most teams around them have battled on the continent as well as domestically Liverpool have been focussed on the Premier League – a Premier League they now look odds-on to win.
