Stories about Manchester United, Arsenal and a former Tottenham Hotspur star all feature.
All eyes are on the Champions League this evening as Arsenal and Liverpool start their quests to win the European Cup.
Borussia Dortmund and Ludogorets await for the Premier League giants who will both be determined to react positively after dropping points in the league last weekend.
Ahead of the games, we’ve cast our minds back to this day last year to see what was in the news.
‘Van Persie wants United stay’
Manchester United striker Robin Van Persie ended speculation that he wanted to leave the club.
The Dutch striker was reportedly unhappy with the methods installed by former United manager David Moyes.
“I have three more years to go and I would like to stay longer. I want to play as long as possible at the highest level. Winning trophies is what it is all about,” he told MUTV.
‘Bale goes house hunting’
Former Tottenham Hotspur star Gareth Bale went house hunting after his big money move to Real Madrid.
The Welshman rejected the chance to join Manchester United, as he was keen to link up with Los Blancos after making it clear that he wasn’t staying in England.
Bale’s house hunt was successful, as he bought Arsenal star Mesut Ozil’s old house for the sum of £1 million.
‘Wenger compares defenders to legendary trio’
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger compared Per Mertesacker, Laurent Koscielny and Thomas Vermaelen to three Arsenal legends.
The Frenchman suggested the trio had similar qualities to Tony Adams, Martin Keown and Steve Bould, now working as an assistant to Wenger.
“Yes, it is a bit like that. The one who didn’t play [the decision] was not justifiable – I rotated and at some stage every time I made a decision [about who] was left out, I thought ‘it is not right’” he told the Arsenal website.
