On the 19th October 2013 what were the stories that dominated the football landscape? Including Arsenal and Manchester United.
Let’s cast our eyes back to this exact day, the 19th October 2014, but a year earlier.
What were the main tales from that day? What big events were happening in Premier League football?
Here are some of the big scoops from the 19th October 2013…
Janu-Signed
Just one day after telling Kosovan media that he wanted a Manchester United stay amid interest from Paris Saint-Germain young attacker Adnan Januzaj put pen to paper on a new deal with the club.
The United youngster had broke onto the scene that campaign with some eye-catching performances – in particular a match-winning one against Sunderland in the Premier League.
But that form had seen vultures circle Manchester United’s most precious talent.
But he agreed a new five-year deal at the club, saying of the move:
“It’s a great thrill to be able to sign for Manchester United. Since arriving here I have always felt like this was the right club for me. This season has been great for me – going on the pre season tour, making my debut in the Community Shield win at Wembley and then breaking into the team at Sunderland – it’s like a dream. I want to work hard now and establish myself as a Manchester United player.”
Januzaj has struggled to establish himself as a first-team regular, especially under the management of Louis van Gaal. But he has now been handed the legendary number 11 shirt previously worn by Ryan Giggs so there is certainly some hope he can go on to emulate the star.
Wilshere wonder
Arsene Wenger was waxing lyrical about a goal scored by his club, which he described as ‘one of the best goals’ he had seen as Arsenal boss.
The Frenchman was speaking to the official website when he admitted that the team goal put in by Jack Wilshere against Norwich City was…
“…certainly one of the best [Arsenal] goals, one that I enjoyed the most as well because it was a team goal. It had combinations and the speed which you always like your team to play with, unfortunately it doesn’t happen always. This one was a mixture of technical quality, speedy thinking, quick reaction and as well being calm in front of goal. It had nearly everything you want to have, combined speed and calm and relaxed attitude. It was a great goal.”
