Manc Mod
As deals to sign Thiago Alcantara and Cesc Fabregas slipped through the fingers of David Moyes he reportedly turned his attention to Real Madrid star, and former Tottenham Hotspur hero, Luka Modric.
The Croatian was said to be considering his future at the club after an up and down first campaign in the Spanish capital.
United, who were desperate for a Paul Scholes type in the heart of the field, were said to be readying an approach for his services.
However true these reports were remain a mystery but he ended up staying at Real and many would say he was the club’s most consistent performer last term.
Cash on Chiriches
Tottenham reportedly bid £7 million for Romanian defender Vlad Chiriches as part of their rebuilding programme last summer.
The Steaua Bucharest player eventually did sign – in a €9.5 million deal. However it took almost a month tog get the deal done – finally confirmed on 24th August 2013.
A year later, and after a disappointing season, Spurs are said to be considering a sale on Chiriches – with Roma and Fiorentina keen.
Barton barters
Finally and a year ago today it was reported that Joey Barton’s agent had informed Roberto Martinez his client would halve his wages in order to join the new boss at Goodison Park.
Barton, a childhood Evertonian, was known to be a big fan of Martinez’s style and wanted to be a part of his Toffees revolution.
Unfortunately Martinez was not keen and Barton went on to help QPR to promotion from The Championship.
