A year ago to the day, Tottenham Hotspur signed the Kenyan.

It might be fair to argue that Tottenham pulled off some of the worst transfer business of the 2016 summer transfer window.
Moussa Sissoko has done very little to justify his club-record £30 million move from Newcastle. Vincent Janssen, a £17 million striker who joined from AZ Alkmaar, can only score penalties. And £9.4 million winger Georges-Kevin Nkoudou failed to start a single Premier League match, making eight substitute appearances.

Given his price-tag and the fact that he did not score in any of his 34 games last season, Sissoko might be the worst transfer to happen last summer – but Tottenham can also lay claim to having made the best signing of that window.
Exactly a year ago, Spurs signed Victor Wanyama from Southampton for £11 million (The Telegraph). It seemed a great deal at the time but fast forward 12 months and it is obvious that the North Londoners pulled off an absolute bargain.
The Kenyan was a rock in the Lilywhites’ midfield last season, starting 35 Premier League games as Mauricio Pochettino’s side challenged Chelsea for the title and ultimately fell a little short.

| Position | Team | Ball Recovery | Duel Won | Interception | Total Pass | Accurate Pass | Dispossessed | Goals | Won Tackle | Appearances | Mins Played | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Victor Wanyama | MF | Tottenham | 242 | 236 | 40 | 1,971 | 1,724 | 34 | 4 | 62 | 36 | 3,015 |
The former Celtic man has been an outstanding addition to Pochettino’s squad and if other pre-season recruits of last summer were half as influential then perhaps Spurs would be going into next season as defending Premier League champions.
But if Pochettino’s signings this summer are anywhere near as influential as Wanyama was last term, in their respective positions, then, with the squad they already have, few would be backing against the North Londoners going all the way.
