I am casting my eye back to this exact day, the 5th April 2014, but a year earlier.
What were the main tales from that day? What big events were happening in Premier League football?
Here are some of the big scoops from the 5th April 2013…
Nani-nana Nani-nana Hey Hey Hey Goodbye
Manchester United were being heavily linked with letting Portuguese winger Nani go in the summer.
With just one year left on his contract and after a season of controversy the club were ready to let him go.
The likes of Zenit St Petersburg and Inter Milan were being linked – however a year later and he is still at the club.
David Moyes’ arrival foresaw the signing of a long term extension at the club – however his season has been marred by injuries and he could be on his way one summer later.
Mosquito buzzing in
Kudos to The Mirror who became the first paper to start the rumour mill churning in the direction of Liverpool chasing Henrikh Mkhitaryan in the summer – because it proved to be true.
The Shakhtar Donetsk star went on to demand an exit from the Donbass Arena and in the end he got his wish.
He had the choice of either playing for Liverpool or Borussia Dortmund and he chose the Champions League runners-up.
He backed the wrong horse.
Dortmund have struggled this term while Liverpool have excelled and the Armenian could have played a pivotal role in that story.
I-want Drago
The Metro were running an ‘exclusive’ that stated Arsenal were all set to close in on Aleksandar Dragovic of FC Basel after scouting him against Spurs in the Europa League.
The Austrian international was reportedly watched by chief scout Steve Rowley – however they never got their man.
He joined Dynamo Kiev in the summer.
