On the 6th April 2013 what were the stories that dominated the football landscape? Including Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal.
I am casting my eye back to this exact day, the 6th April 2014, but a year earlier.
What were the main tales from that day? What big events were happening in Premier League football?
Here are some of the big scoops from the 6th April 2013…
Bergkamp back
Arsenal were reportedly lining up a move to bring Dennis Bergkamp back to the club. The Dutch legend, currently working at Ajax, was being linked with a potential move to The Emirates in order to take over from Liam Brady upon his retirement in 2014.
Despite that rumour however an offer was never forthcoming.
Instead it is another Dutchman who will get the role.
It was revealed in January that Wolfsburg assistant manager Andries Jonker will take up the role in the summer.
He is best known for his work with Louis van Gaal and is known to encourage a fast and attacking style of play.
Getting your kicks
Oscar revealed some rather amusing points from the Chelsea training ground – saying that his team-mates kick him in sessions.
The Brazilian stated:
“In training, we learn. We also play a lot of games and we get fouled a lot. We’re learning to face up to the bullies. The league here is really strong. I have to up my game every time I play. But training is strong here too. I’m not aware if anyone’s been told to kick me in training – but they are doing it anyway! So I’m learning.”
Sing for it Carroll
Brendan Rodgers was talking about the future of striker Andy Carroll:
“There’s no doubt Andy has great qualities. Look at one of his two goals last week for West Ham from the corner. There are not too many better sights in football when you’ve the big guy going and heading the ball like that. As to his future, there are other things involved; it’s not as simple as him being here. There are other things we need to consider in it all.”
Today saw Carroll try his best to ruin Liverpool’s title chances by slapping Simon Mignolet on the head – but Liverpool won 2-1 and continued on their march.
