The Newcastle United striker was talking about his future in the press.
A year ago today, on Christmas Eve,and Newcastle United striker Ayoze Perez was claiming that both Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur wanted to sign him – as he discussed his form at St James’ Park in what was surely some wishful Christmas thinking.
He was speaking to Sport.es about his career in England when he stated:
“There is truth in the talk about interest in me. It’s rewarding for me.

“There is much truth in the interest from Tottenham and Man United, but my place is at Newcastle.”
It was quite the claim from the talented Spaniard who, earlier in the season, had scored the winning goal at White Hart Lane against Tottenham.
But if he were to come out and say the same now, not many would believe him.
The Spaniard has struggled to find form on a regular basis in the 12 months since this statement.

The 23-year-old striker could not help Newcastle avoid relegation from the Premier League last season. This season he is doing well, with six goals in 19 appearances. Unfortunately for him many of those appearances have come from the substitutes bench. He has started just 11 of Newcastle’s 22 Championship fixtures so far this season and Spurs and Manchester United are unlikely go for him now.
But he is still a talent and his goal record is more impressive this season when you take into account the playing time he has had.
It’s been a tough year for Perez and Newcastle – but hopefully his future is bright.
