Steven Gerrard has revealed that he’s ‘on the verge’ of welcoming Jermain Defoe and Cedric Itten back into his Rangers squad.
Defoe hasn’t kicked a ball for the Ibrox outfit yet this season after suffering a hamstring injury back in July.
And new boy Itten, a £3 million signing by Rangers last month, sat out international duty with Switzerland after picking up a knock.
This is a massive, massive season for the Gers as they attempt to stop Celtic winning 10 Premiership titles in a row.
Gerrard’s side are back at Ibrox on Saturday as Rangers welcome Dundee United.
And the light Blues boss has two very encouraging pieces of news in regards to Defoe and Itten, telling the club’s official channel: “Jermain Defoe is on the verge of that [resuming full training], Cedric Itten is on the verge of that and Jordan Jones’ injury is not as bad as first feared.
“We are hoping, in a week’s time, we should be in real good shape from an injury point of view as well.”
It looks like Defoe and Itten will miss Saturday’s game, but Rangers – who still have Kemar Roofe, and Alfredo Morelos for now – could and should have enough to get past the newly-promoted side this weekend.
