Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz has got fans, both of his own and of Brazil side Vasco’s, in a bit of a frenzy following his Twitter message on Tuesday.

After Villa’s official Twitter account posted an image of Luiz and Philippe Coutinho in training, the defensive-minded midfielder responded to that by posting: ‘Don’t worry, Vascão, We’re on our way back’.

Both players grew up together in Brazil, including coming through at Vasco da Gama, one of the South American giant’s famous sides based in Rio.

LUIZ, COUTINHO AND VASCO

It seems as though the former Manchester City man was simply showcasing his support to the club, rather than stating that he will return to them, alongside Coutinho.

But, it’s fair to say, that isn’t how it’s been read by the Vasco faithful, who have been left pretty excited by his Twitter post, as they stated in the comments section.

Whilst Luiz won’t be going anywhere anytime soon, even to another Premier League team after signing a new contract.

It might just be the end of the road for Coutinho, who has failed to score or assist this season and, as a result, it meant that he wasn’t selected for Brazil’s recent outing at the Qatar World Cup.

There are suggestions that Coutinho wants to head for the Villa Park exit door in January and return to Brazil – he was brought in during the January transfer window by Steven Gerrard.

Whilst it all started with a stunning debut, after the former Liverpool man scored against Manchester United, it went downhill not soon after that.
