Tottenham Hotspur chose a decent time to hire an Italian transfer fixer.
In June, it was announced that Spurs had appointed Fabio Paratici as their new managing director, following a hugely-successful spell with Juventus.
And with Italy champions of Europe, it may be beneficial to have somebody with Paratici’s knowledge and contact book.
According to Area Napoli, Tottenham have made an offer to sign Napoli attacker Lorenzo Insigne, who helped the Azzurri to their Euro 2020 title last weekend.
The Lilywhites badly need attacking players, irrespective of whether Nuno Espirito Santo winds up keeping Harry Kane in North London.
And suffice to say that some Spurs fans are well on board with the idea of signing Insigne, who spent time at the club’s training ground while preparing for the final at Wembley last week.
Here’s how they reacted on Twitter:
Potentially good move
The Italian club finished fifth in Serie A last season but Insigne still managed 19 league goals for the Naples-based side.
It’s a very decent return and suggests that the Italian marksman, despite turning 30 in June, remains at the peak of his powers.
As a replacement for Kane, this is a non-starter for Tottenham because even by their standards, replacing your star player with somebody two years older and less of a goalscorer is nonsensical.
But Spurs rely too much on Kane and Son Heung-min, and a move for Insigne may just lighten the goalscoring burden, should the Englishman wind up staying.
