Green left Villa this summer to join League One side Portsmouth.
Aston Villa starlet Andre Green has confirmed on Twitter, as quoted by Portsmouth News, that he has undergone an operation to remove a cyst from his knee, just two appearances into his season-long loan spell at Portsmouth.
The 20-year-old winger broke into Steve Bruce’s side last season, and has clocked up 36 appearances for Villa’s senior side since as well as earning England Under-20 caps.
However, with Villa bringing in Anwar El Ghazi from French side Lille and Yannick Bolasie from Everton, Green was shipped out on loan in order to further his development with League One side Portsmouth.
But after just two appearances, Green explained on Twitter that he has gone under the knife to correct an issue on his knee – as reported by Portsmouth News before the Tweet was removed.
“After feeling pain in my knee for the last year due to a cyst I finally decided to get it removed. Thankful everything went well & this small set back can allow me to get back to my best & play 100% fit,” Green said.
The surgery on Portsmouth’s number 37 was the reason he was omitted from Pompey’s squad in the win over Peterborough at the weekend, which saw Pompey win in a first against second battle.
It is unclear how long Green will be on the sidelines, but he is expected to remain at Portsmouth as his loan lasts until the end of the season.
