Liverpool were backed to struggle throughout early 2022 as their star players headed to the African Cup of Nations, but, perhaps surprisingly, they came through this period unscathed.

Indeed, Liverpool actually went unbeaten throughout the games that they had to play without Mohamed Salah or Sadio Mane, and their brilliant run of form was certainly aided by the brilliant performances of Diogo Jota.

The Portuguese forward was absolutely brilliant through this run. He scored some key goals, and he helped Liverpool through two of their toughest games against Arsenal and Leicester.

Understandably, Jota has received plenty of praise for his recent form, and one man who he has caught the attention of is Daniel Sturridge.

Sturridge says that Jota is on flames right now, and he’s not wrong. The striker is on fire.

Jota is the second-highest scorer in the Premier League, and the only man who can better his tally of 12 is his teammate Mohamed Salah.

There has been years of concern about how Liverpool will cope once their famous front three are past their best, but in recent weeks Jota has shown that he truly can be the heir to Salah and Mane’s goalscoring throne.

Factor in the fact that Luis Diaz had an electric debut for the Reds and the future looks very bright for Liverpool’s attack.
