Trevor Sinclair has lauded Arsenal utility man Bukayo Saka on TalkSport (17/10/20 at 5 pm start) for his impressive performance during his side’s 1-0 defeat to Manchester City yesterday.

The former Premier League winger thinks Mikel Arteta’s call to select Saka over Ainsley Maitland-Niles may have seemed ‘harsh’, but the recently-capped England man was a ‘real bright spark’ for his side in that first period.

Sinclair shared that the reason why Saka was selected ahead of Maitland-Niles against Man City was that he must have ‘looked on fire’ in training and he thinks he carried that on in the game in itself.

“I think Saka has been superb,” Sinclair told TalkSport. “You look at Maitland-Niles, who has not been in the starting XI and you raise a few question marks and think ‘that’s harsh’.

“But I think Mikel Arteta has looked at them in training and Saka has obviously looked on fire and he’s continued that onto this game. Every time he has been involved he has had shots on target and put dangerous balls into the box.

“He has looked a real bright spark for Arsenal down this left-hand side.”

It has been some rise for Saka, who is a player producing performances beyond his teenage years.

Saka deserved his England call over the international break, with Gareth Southgate handing him his maiden start as the Three Lions beat Wales 3-0 in a friendly.

That’s just a sign of things to come for the Arsenal academy product, who can play in behind, out wide or as a fullback.
