Michail Antonio has stated that Tottenham are ‘on fire’ after they trashed Newcastle United on Sunday, as the West Ham star told The Footballer’s Football Podcast

Only a number of weeks ago Spurs were beating West Ham, so Antonio understands what it likes facing Antonio Conte’s side, as he described Heung-Min Son, Harry Kane and Dejan Kulusevski as ‘frightening’.

For large parts of the season, things have been indifferent for Spurs, both under Nuno Espirito Santo and Conte himself.

At one point, only Brentford had lost more games in 2022 than the north London club, but all of that has now changed as they sit fourth in the Premier League table.

Nonetheless, Antonio was speaking to Newcastle striker, Callum Wilson, who missed the 5-1 defeat through injury, about the weekend game.

“You know what Spurs have been on fire,” said Antonio. “I’m going to have to give it to them. They have been on fire.

“Conte has got them playing really well. You guys (speaking to Callum Wilson) can’t really be disheartened by that performance or being beaten that way.

“One thing with Spurs, their front three are frightening. The way they counter is unbelievable. How quick they can get from one end to the other side.”

What helped Spurs even further is their neighbours losing 3-0 to Crystal Palace on Monday night.

Arsenal are still level on points with Spurs and they have that one game in hand, but things are starting to turn at the right time for those at Hotspur Way.

That Spurs front three have been connecting like they are worthy of playing in the Champions League, as a trip to Aston Villa awaits them on Saturday.

The issue facing them now is that they are expected to win at Villa Park, but they face an out-of-form side, which doesn’t bode well for the team because it’s the type of game where they would slip-up.

So, perhaps this is the time for Conte and his players to show a different side to their game and how they mean serious business during these final few months.
