Don Hutchison has suggested on Twitter that Liverpool should sign Barcelona attacking midfielder Philippe Coutinho on a free transfer in the summer of 2021.
The former Liverpool midfielder, who now works as a pundit for ESPN, made the suggestion while responding to speculation that Barcelona still owe the Reds a lot of money for Coutinho.
Barcelona signed the 28-year-old Brazilian from Liverpool in January 2018, and, according to a report in Sport this month, they still have more than €50 million (£42.84 million) to pay the defending Premier League champions from that deal.
While Hutchison’s post on Twitter might have been tongue-in-cheek, there is a case to be made for Liverpool bringing back Coutinho.
The Brazil international, who can also operate as a winger, was brilliant during his time at Liverpool and worked perfectly in the system of manager Jurgen Klopp, who called him “world-class”, as quoted on SporstMole.

Coutinho is still 28, and having not had the best of times at Barcelona, he could be determined to get back to his best at another club.
Although Liverpool have a strong attacking unit, the Brazilian would give Klopp another option, make the squad better, and would increase competition.
Liverpool do not tend to play with a number 10, but Coutinho in the squad would allow Klopp to at least have that option.
