Aston Villa fans have taken to Twitter in panic, after hearing that Kevin Friend will be on VAR duty when they take on Tottenham this Wednesday.
The Villa Park faithful are not too fond of Friend, after he made a quite awful decision at Selhurst Park back in August 2019.
Yep – football fans really do have long memories.
With Crystal Palace leading 1-0 in the final stages, Henri Lansbury looked to have snatched a late point after being teed up by Jack Grealish.
Villa’s No.10 innocently fell over as he laid the pass on for Lansbury, and didn’t even make an attempt to claim for a penalty.
However, before Lansbury slotted past Vicente Guaita, Friend had already blown his whistle to give Palace a freekick, as he felt Grealish dived.

We were actually at that game, and it was a mind-boggling decision.
To make matters worse, VAR was unable to intervene as Friend had already blown his whistle before Lansbury put the ball in the back of the net.
Nearly two years on from that moment, the Villa fans haven’t forgotten.

You can’t blame them – it was a shocking decision.
Hopefully, Friend isn’t involved in any more drama while in the VAR Hub at Stockley Park this Wednesday.
Let’s see what the Villa fans on Twitter have been saying…
