He wasn’t among the goalscorers, but Sadio Mane starred for Liverpool tonight.

Jurgen Klopp’s side came from behind to beat Sheffield United 2-1 at Anfield, after Sander Berge fired the visitors into 1-0 lead from the penalty spot.

The hero for Liverpool was new boy Diogo Jota who headed home on 64 minutes to complete the comeback.

But the goal came about through a moment of magic from Mane, who comfortably beat his marker out wide and stood up a wonderful cross – with his weaker foot – for Jota to connect with.

Here’s how former Liverpool man Don Hutchison reacted to the goal on Twitter:

The hosts had a goal chalked off for offside shortly before Jota’s goal, this time through Mo Salah.

This was a pretty big test for Liverpool, given that Virgil van Dijk, their best centre-back, won’t be around until next season.

Fabinho conceded a dubious penalty which Berge tucked away, but for the most part the Anfield side, who beat Ajax without Van Dijk in midweek, coped well and the more they do, the stronger they’ll become.
