HITC understands that Ipswich Town are closing in on a key £20 million signing from Chelsea as the club prepare for life in the Premier League.

This summer looked set to be one of upheaval at Portman Road when it emerged that Kieran McKenna was a top target for Brighton & Hove Albion to replace Roberto De Zerbi.

HITC reported that the Seagulls were confident of getting the deal done but the former Manchester United assistant coach chose to remain in East Anglia.

With that massive question mark sorted, the club have begun looking at transfer targets and one player they would like to bring in on a permanent deal is Omari Hutchinson.

Ipswich closing in on Hutchinson deal

Sources have confirmed to HITC that Ipswich and Chelsea are locked in talks over a deal and an agreement, believed to be worth around £20 million, is close to being struck.

It is our understanding that there will be no buyback clause inserted into the deal from the Blues but there will be a substantial sell-on clause.

Last season, he made 50 appearances in total for Ipswich, scoring 11 goals in the process as the Tractor Boys achieved back to back promotions from EFL League One to the Premier League.

Back in July of 2022, the Blues pulled off the signing of Hutchinson from Arsenal in what was a controversial move but it has not worked out for the Englishman, who has represented his country at youth level.

Chelsea inform Hutchinson he will not receive first team football

Sources have told HITC that Chelsea made it clear to Hutchison that he would not be part of the first-team set up next season under Enzo Maresca, so the Blues thought a permanent deal was the best way forward for all parties.

Despite receiving interest from teams in England and Europe, HITC understands that Hutchinson made it clear from the start that he wanted to play under McKenna again.

Ipswich have also identified their number one goalkeeping target as Brighton’s Carl Rushworth is the name that the Tractor Boys are chasing as they step up their preparations for Premier League football next season.
