Bristol City will seek to replace Tammy Abraham in the summer, and Wigan striker Omar Bogle should be considered as the man to fill the void left by Abraham’s departure.

Tammy Abraham is Bristol City’s leading goalscorer with 26 goals and his performances at Ashton Gate this season looks set to spark a war between clubs in the summer to secure the 19-year-old’s signature. The on-loan Chelsea man has recently been linked with a loan move to Premier League new boys Brighton, according to the Daily Star.

Whether his future lies away from Stamford Bridge on a permanent or temporary basis remains yet to be decided but what is certain, City boss Lee Johnson is charged with the unenvious task of finding a player to replace Abraham. It is likely that Johnson will have a number of potential targets lined up and Wigan striker Omar Bogle should find himself on this list.

The 24-year-old was signed by Wigan Athletic in January from League Two side Grimsby Town but was powerless to save his new side from relegation back to League One. After a bright start to his career at the DW Stadium, the goals have dried up for Bogle and his last goal came back in February, his third career goal in the Championship.

Despite his retched run of form in front of goal, it would be unfair to blame the forward for the Latics’ downfall as the team have scored just 39 goals all season, the joint worst in the division.

It is likely that Bogle features in Wigan’s immediate plans for League One but the Latics should be prepared for bids for the striker from Championship sides.

Bristol City would be wise to take a serious look at Bogle. Abraham has made the central forward position his own at Ashton Gate and he will be a tough act to follow on from, but Bogle has the potential to be a prolific Championship forward.

Despite being in the midst of a relegation battle this season, City have not struggled for goals and Bogle would benefit from being the focal point in a side that creates chances.

A potential move to Ashton Gate would be unlikely to command a bank breaking transfer fee and Bogle may well be keen to prove his doubters wrong and show that he is capable of being a success in the Championship.
