Leeds United are said to be planning a move for the £2million-rated striker.

According to a report from the Sun earlier this month (12/03/2017 page 61), Leeds United are interested in signing Exeter City striker Ollie Watkins this summer.

But Whites fans may be interested to note that since the link, the 21-year-old has failed to score or assist.

Prior to the rumour, Watkins was on a fine run of form, scoring three goals in his previous four matches and netting 14 in total, while also managing 11 assists.

But in the three matches since the news of Leeds’ interest broke, the young forward has not played a direct role in a strike of any kind.

Exeter fans will not be complaining, with their team finding the net seven times in those matches, but the alleged Leeds target is clearly off the boil and one can only hope the pressure of a potential summer switch is not taking its toll before it has even arrived.

That is mere speculation and there is no doubting Watkins’ innate talent, but the pressure of playing for a side like Leeds is sizeable, and Watkins rarely goes four straight matches without a goal or assist – a run he is currently enduring.

A report from the Derby Telegraph last month claimed Exeter value Watkins at £2million. However Leeds will not want to fork out such a sum unless they are convinced the player can handle the step up.
