Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal have been linked with Ollie Watkins, and Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp’s previous comments on the Aston Villa striker will encourage the Gunners’ fans.

What’s the story?

The Sun have reported that Arsenal are interested in signing Watkins from Premier League rivals Villa.

The Gunners are looking at the former Brentford striker as a potential replacement for Alexandre Lacazette.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is open to selling Lacazette in the January transfer window if they can bring in a replacement.

One of the players under consideration at the North London club is Watkins.

What has been said

Watkins has been superb for Villa in the Premier League and has impressed many, including Liverpool boss Klopp.

Klopp knows a quality player when he sees one, and the German manager’s previous comments on the 25-year-old England international striker will encourage the Arsenal fans.

The Liverpool boss said about Watkins on Sky Sports in April 2021: “[Watkins] is a really talented striker. It was a really good signing. He’s strong, he can jump high, he’s very fast, he’s a good package.”

Arsenal transfer feasible?

It is very unlikely that Villa will sell Watkins in the middle of the season.

After all, the Englishman is a key figure in manager Dean Smith’s side.

However, next summer, a transfer could happen.

After all, money talks.

The Villa no. 11 scored 14 goals and gave five assists in 37 Premier League matches last season.

Watkins has scored one goal in five Premier League appearances for the Villans so far this campaign.
