Celtic beat rivals Rangers 1-0 on Sunday afternoon.
Celtic midfielder Olivier Ntcham has told the club’s official website that he felt the fans could tell a goal was coming against Rangers on Sunday afternoon.
The Bhoys went into the game with major questions to answer after a disappointing summer, in which they were knocked out of the Champions League qualifiers by AEK Athens, missed out on transfer targets and sold striker Moussa Dembele.
With Rangers unbeaten in 12 games under new boss Steven Gerrard heading into his first Old Firm game, some believed that the Gers could really make a statement by claiming a win at Parkhead.
However, Celtic were dominant and were camped in the Rangers half for much of the game, hitting the woodwork and forcing Allan McGregor into a host of saves, with Brendan Rodgers’ side unable to find the net.
Celtic did finally make the breakthrough though, as a sweeping counter-attack resulted in Olivier Ntcham turning home James Forrest’s pass to score the only goal of the game.
The French midfielder starred throughout and certainly deserved his goal, with Ntcham now discussing the atmosphere during Sunday’s win over the Gers with the club’s official website.
Ntcham suggested that the atmosphere was ‘very special’, and believes that the Celtic fans ‘knew’ that a goal was coming, even after missing so many golden opportunities to open the scoring.
“It was a very nice game to play in and to win it was fantastic,” said Ntcham. “The atmosphere was very special too. The fans were amazing and I think they knew a goal was coming from the way we were playing. We played very well and I think given the way we played we deserved to win the game. We created some very good chances and we could have scored some goals,” he added.
