The Black Cats took the lead through Jermain Defoe’s first-half opener.
But Sunderland were pegged back late on as Mitrovic netted with minutes to go for Newcastle, prompting delight from Kemen – who now plays in Ligue 1:
Meanwhile, current goalkeeper Rob Elliot took to social media praising Mitrovic for his equaliser and saluting the ‘unbelievable’ St James’ Park atmosphere.

Newcastle’s 1-1 draw with Sunderland doesn’t really help either side.
But there is hope for the Magpies as they face Norwich City next in the Premier League.
