Everton should make a move for Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud in the summer transfer window.
Olivier Giroud is a good striker and has done quite well at Arsenal. Since his arrival at the Emirates Stadium in the summer of 2012, the France international has scored a total of 65 goals in the Premier League.
It is a decent record, but nowhere near the level of a striker who is playing for a supposedly title-chasing team. True, there have been injuries, but for Arsenal to challenge for the Premier League title and the Champions League crown, they need someone better.
However, Giroud would be a good addition at Everton, especially if Romelu Lukaku leaves Goodison Park in the summer transfer window.
The Frenchman is not as good as Lukaku and will be 31 in September, but he would be a decent signing for a club who would be aiming to break into the top six of the Premier League next season.
Everton are unlikely to get a world-class striker who would score 20 league goals, which means that they would have to look at ‘tier 2’ strikers. Giroud is in this category.
The former Montpellier star should be able to score 15 league goals if played to his strength. The 30-year-old has proved himself in the Premier League, and he would not be a ‘gamble signing’.
Wages could be a problem for Everton and so could be the lack of European football, but the lure of playing in the Premier League could at least make Giroud consider a move to the Merseyside outfit.
