Olivier Giroud says that he was close to joining Everton from Arsenal in the summer transfer window.
According to The Sun, Everton wanted to sign Giroud from Premier League rivals Arsenal in the summer.
The France international striker has admitted that he was close to joining Ronald Koeman’s side.
“I was very close to signing for another English club, Everton, but I made the best choice I think,” Giroud told RMC Sport.
Should Everton make January move?
Giroud is one of the best strikers in the Premier League and has proved himself in the top flight of English football.
The problem is that summer signing Alexandre Lacazette is a better striker, which is why the 31-year-old’s playing time has been limited so far this season.
The France international striker has yet to make a start in the Premier League this campaign.
With Everton struggling in attack at the moment, it would make sense for the Toffees to make a move for Giroud in the January transfer window.
Giroud joined Arsenal from French club Montpellier in the summer of 2012 for a transfer fee reported by BBC Sport to be worth £12 million.
