Leicester City produced a memorable Champions League result to beat Sevilla and reach the quarter-finals of the competition.

While Paris Saint-Germain, Arsenal and Napoli are among the competitions’ regulars to already be eliminated, Leicester are the upstarts making waves among the established order, in perhaps their one and only season in the Champions League.

Former Premier League midfielder Olivier Dacourt commented on Twitter after the game, and hailed Leicester’s 3-2 aggregate win as reminiscent of Leeds United’s 2000 run.

Leeds went on to reach the semi-finals that year, beating Roma in the last eight before succumbing to Barcelona.

Asked who was the better of the two, Dacourt had only one response – the Leeds side he played in.

Leeds could not maintain their place at Europe’s top table, and were relegated to the Championship four years later, and they have remained outside the top flight ever since.

Leicester have been flirting with relegation already this season despite actually winning the Premier League last year, but should have enough to avoid it this campaign.

The message from Leeds to Leicester should be clear. Enjoy this moment while you can, as who knows if it will ever come again.
