Newcastle United legend Olivier Bernard has made his feelings on Miguel Almiron very clear ahead of the Magpies’ Premier League game against Arsenal on Monday night.
The Paraguay playmaker has lifted the atmosphere at St James’ Park since his arrival from MLS side Atlanta United for about £20m, as reported by BBC Sport.
Almiron has taken part in six Premier League games for Rafael Benitez’s side (Transfermarkt) and, with him in their ranks, the Magpies have won three (against Huddersfield, Burnley and Everton) and draw two (Wolves and Bournemouth).
On Monday comes a huge test in the shape of a trip to the Emirates Stadium, Newcastle hoping to defeat the Gunners on their own turf for just the third time since the turn of the century (in 2001 and 2010, according to 11v11).
Indeed, Bernard was part of the second-to-last Magpies squad which succeeded in the mission, featuring in a successful 3-1 win at Highbury back in 2001, and speaking ahead of the game, he gave his thoughts on the highly rated playmaker.
“I’ve been very impressed with Almiron,” he told the official Newcastle website. “However, he is still raw and I don’t think he has hit his full potential yet. I think he has the makings to be a fantastic player for the club. His movement is ridiculously good and his turn of pace is second to none.”
Newcastle currently sit in 13th place in the Premier League table, seven points clear of the bottom three with seven games to play.
