Newcastle United returned to winning ways in the Premier League on Monday afternoon, as they got the better of Stoke City 1-0 away from home at the bet365 Stadium.
Ayoze Perez’s goal in the 73rd minute proved to be the difference between Stoke and Newcastle.
The result has enhanced the Magpies’ chances of escaping the drop to the Championship at the end of the season.
Rafael Benitez’s side are 13th in the Premier League table at the moment with 22 points from as many matches.
Newcastle are now four points above the relegation zone and are still in danger of going down to the second tier of English football at the end of the season.
Former Newcastle defender Olivier Bernard was following the match, and the 38-year-old has taken to social networking site Twitter to give his reaction to the win for the Magpies.
Ex-Newcastle attacker Peter Lovenkrands has also taken to Twitter to give his reaction to the final result, and so has former Liverpool striker and Sky Sports pundit Neil Mellor.
