Oliver McBurnie is a Glasgow Rangers fan, but moving to Leeds United instead of Graeme Murty’s Ibrox side would be a better option for the Swansea City-owned Barnsley striker.

Oli McBurnie is seen during a training session prior to the International Friendly match between Scotland and Costa Rica at Orium Sports Centr on March 19, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Rangers and Leeds United both have been linked with Oliver McBurnie, who is currently on loan at Barnsley from Swansea City, and it could be a tough decision for the 21-year-old to decide whether to choose Graeme Murty’s Gers or the Elland Road outfit.

McBurnie is a Rangers fan and recently told The Scottish Sun that he hopes to play for the Gers someday.

Graeme Murty’s side were interested in signing the Scotland international striker on loan from Swansea in the January transfer window, according to The Scottish Sun, and given the youngster’s current form – he has scored six goals in eight Championship starts for Barnsley since his loan switch – the Glasgow giants could decide to renew their interest in the summer transfer window.

While one can understand McBurnie’s temptation to join Rangers, perhaps the 21-year-old rising car should move to Leeds instead.

According to The Sun (print edition, page 60, March 18, 2018), Leeds are interested in signing the Scotsman in the summer transfer window (click here to read more).

Paul Heckingbottom brought the youngster on loan to Barnsley in January before he left for the head coach’s role at Championship rivals Leeds.

It is clear that Heckingbottom rates the striker highly, and working with him will help the Scotland international improve.

Moreover, McBurnie is still developing. If the youngster joins Rangers, then he will have to make an instant impact and meet the high demands of the fans, and he is probably not ready yet to lead the line for the Gers, who will be aiming to challenge Old Firm rivals Celtic for the Scottish Premiership title next season.

For McBurnie to establish himself as a Rangers legend and endear himself to the Ibrox faithful, he needs to go to the Glasgow club when he is a bit more mature and after he has played regularly for one or two full seasons in a competitive domestic league.
