Oliver Burke has passed on his congratulations to Joe Worrall after the Nottingham Forest defender extended his Reds contract by three years on Monday.

Worrall, who rose through Forest’s academy ranks to make his senior debut earlier this season, has committed himself to the City Ground until June 2020.

And one of the first to message the 20-year-old on Twitter was his former teammate Burke, who left Forest for RB Leipzig in a £13 million deal last August.

“Congrats mate. Keep working,” the Scotland winger posted, to which Worrall replied: “Thanks lad.”

Burke began the season in fine form, scoring four goals and creating another in five Championship outings for Forest.

And Worrall is one of several of the 19-year-old’s former academy colleagues to have shone in his absence, with central midfielder Matty Cash and striker Ben Brereton the two most notable.

The Reds trio have all been linked with moves to top-level clubs this campaign, with Cash even tipped to follow Burke to Leipzig.

The newly-promoted outfit are currently second in the Bundesliga, eight point clear of third-placed Borussia Dortmund.
