With RB Leipzig top of the German first division, few could query Burke’s Bundesliga move now.

Oliver Burke has told Set Pieces that he has proven the critics wrong after moving to RB Leipzig over a Premier League club in the summer.

The Scotland international caused a stir when he departed Nottingham Forest for the Bundesliga, with the nouveau-riche German outfit, bankrolled by energy-drink corporation Red Bull, making their controversial debut in the top flight this season despite only being founded seven years ago.

Pundit John Hartson criticized Burke in the Scottish Sun for his decision to try his hand at a foreign league over a somewhat safer move to the likes of Sunderland or West Brom but, while the aforementioned duo appear to have a fight on their hands to secure their Premier League status this season, Leipzig have knocked Bayern Munich off the top of the Bundesliga for the first time in 39 matchdays.

The North German outfit are unbeaten in their first 11 league games this season, having secured a famous win away at Bayer Leverkusen on Friday night, and Burke believes their remarkable start to the season has justified his decision to further his career away from the English game.

“It’s obviously proved everybody wrong,” Burke told Set Pieces, despite starting just one Bundesliga game this season. “And now I’ve really shown that I’ve come to a fantastic club.

“I don’t really need to say much really – look at where we are.”

Furthermore, although a 2-0 win away at Ipswich on Saturday eased some of the mounting pressure on the shoulders of manager Philippe Montanier, former club Nottingham Forest are still teetering above the drop zone in the second tier.
