The 18-year-old was delighted after featuring for Forest’s Under-21s.

Nottingham Forest’s Under-21 side may have fallen to Swansea City on penalties on Wednesday night but spirits remained high in the knowledge that the summer holidays are on their way.

Certainly for Oliver Burke, anyway, who is delighted with a ‘fantastic’ season at the City Ground after making his first-team debut for Forest, as well as starring for the Under-21s.

Burke played before being substituted against Swansea and took to Twitter after the game to thank those Nottingham Forest fans who turned up to cheer the side, as well as everyone that has helped him throughout the past year.

With the Championship campaign over, the 18-year-old can now look forward to a good summer’s rest – before the gruelling footballing marathon begins once again with pre-season. But could Burke have even more to look forward to next term?

As Opta stats show, only one Nottingham Forest star has played less minutes than Burke for the senior side this season. But the fact remains Burke has been given the opportunity in the first place.

Not only that but boss Dougie Freedman is a man intent on promoting his younger stars.

With the challenges of such frequent football in the Championship, every option in terms of squad depth is worth pursuing. And Burke can certainly learn a lot the more he plays for Forest’s first team.

For now, though, rest – and time to reflect on a promising season for the teenager.
