The winger has had a year to remember after joining RB Leipzig.

This summer saw Nottingham Forest sell their star player in Oliver Burke. The Scottish star made a shock move to German side RB Leipzig for a fee reported by the BBC to be in the region of £13 million.

The Scotsman had a blinding start to the new season with Forest and fans at the City Ground were hoping he was going to be a star for years to come.

So, when he was sold in the summer fans at Forest were unimpressed.

He has been speaking to Bild this week about the move, and his excellent 2016.

He told the German press:

“It was an outstanding year — getting the contract at Leipzig and in the Bundesliga. A dream came true.

“The team’s on a roll and I have to wait in line and continue to put my foot on the gas.

“It’s clear the coach can’t change a successful team, but we’re in preseason now. I’ll work hard and want to pay back the trust they have in me. If I get my chance, I’ll take it.”

It has been a fantastic calendar year for Burke, even if getting regular football at Leipzig is proving more of a challenge than he might have expected had he stayed at Nottingham Forest.

He has made his breakthrough into the Scottish national team and made a money-spinning transfer to an up-and-coming European force.

Meanwhile, at Forest, it has been a tough year. Poor management and structure has led to below-par performances on the pitch and the club have not started 2017 any better.

Forest fans will hope that the situation at the club changes in 2017.
