Oli McBurnie has taken some flak from the Leeds United fans on Twitter in recent weeks.

Oli McBurnie of Swansea City celebrates his goal during the Sky Bet Championship match between Leeds United and Swansea City at Elland Road on February 13, 2019 in Leeds, England.

Oli McBurnie has responded to a Leeds fan on Twitter after it was suggested that he hates the Whites, while he also addressed the tweet that he sent out regarding Dan James’s future while the winger was being linked with a move to Elland Road.

McBurnie was seen by the Leeds fans to be one of the villains of the James saga. The Yorkshire Evening Post reported that the winger was all ready to sign for Leeds last month and had completed a medical when Swansea stopped taking calls from their Championship rivals.

The deadline passed without a move going through, and McBurnie managed to anger a lot of the Leeds fans by posting a picture of himself and James celebrating a goal from earlier in the season. The post was quickly deleted.

But that did seem to have an impact on the reception that the striker received when he came on for Graham Potter’s side in Wednesday’s game between the two sides.

McBurnie was booed when he was on the ball. And he responded by raising his finger to his lips when he scored from the penalty spot to hand Swansea a lifeline – though Leeds saw the game out to win 2-1 and go back to the top of the table.

Given that it was not an equalising goal, and perhaps because it came from the penalty spot, McBurnie has taken a lot of flak for his celebration.

But when asked what he has against Leeds, the 22-year-old – who was born in the city and had been on the club’s books until 2010 – insisted that there is no animosity, before seemingly making reference to a comment he made about James’s future amid the speculation.
